Faces of Transplant: Johanna Pryluck

Johanna Pryluck

What is your connection to Transplant?

My 3-year old son Aiden had a liver transplant when he was 10 months old.

Why did you choose to have your care at Columbia?

When it was first suspected that Aiden had Biliary Atresia we were referred to Dr. [Mercedes] Martinez at Columbia. After our first consultation, we knew Aiden was in the best hands possible.

How many years are you post transplant?

Aiden had his liver transplant 2.5 years ago

What is your quality of life now?

Aiden is a happy and healthy 3-year-old who loves school, swimming, and tormenting his older sister. He does everything a 3 year old should do and if you see him at school or walking down the street you would never guess he had a transplant.

Tell us about your relationship with your transplant team.

I don’t think there are words that can describe how thankful we are for Dr. Martinez and the Columbia team.  They not only saved Aiden’s life, they saved our family. From day one they have been available whenever we needed them. Dr. Martinez is not just Aiden’s doctor, she has become a family friend.
